- In short
- Add year, month, quarter, day and more columns next to the selected date column. New right-hand columns. Your table stays untouched, and Undo Last stands by if you change your mind. Everything runs on your computer, with no internet involved.
What it is for
Create Date Hierarchy is used to derive year/month/quarter/day columns from a date column.
When to use it
Most useful when you need to prepare date dimensions for a PivotTable/chart.
Example scenarios
- Prepare date dimensions for a PivotTable/chart.
What it needs
A single column and an options dialog (parts) + confirm. Supported data types: text, number, date (by selection).
How to use it
- Select the range holding the dates.
- On the XLMind Data tab, open the Create Date menu in the Date group and choose Create Date Hierarchy.
- Adjust the options in the window to fit your case.
- Confirm; new right-hand columns.

New right-hand columns.
Effect on your data and undo
Create Date Hierarchy does not change your source data; the result is added as a separate item. Undo Last reverses it whenever you need.
How it differs from similar tools
Compared with a hand-built formula setup there is nothing to maintain; the source table keeps its formulas and formats untouched.
