- In short
- Share within share with variable widths. You pick the template from the gallery and map its fields to your cells; the visual stays bound to the data, updates when it changes, and remains freely editable. The source table is untouched.
What it shows
Shows a two dimensional share through both column width and inner segments, presenting share within share.
When to use it
Typical use: showing market segments by both total share and inner breakdown together.
Example scenarios
- Showing market segments by both total share and inner breakdown together.
- Analysts: shows a two dimensional share through both column width and inner segments, presenting share within share.
What it needs
Columns for the category labels, the segment labels and the numeric values to compare.
How to use it
- Select the data range or table you want to visualize.
- Open the Charts (Visualizations menu) gallery from the XLMind Plus tab.
- Pick the Marimekko template and map its fields to your cells.
- The visual is inserted bound to your data; it refreshes as the cells change.
What it produces
A live SVG chart shape (auto-refresh and edit).
Effect on your data and undo
Marimekko does not change your source data; the result is added as a separate item. It refreshes automatically when the linked cells change. If it is not what you wanted, Undo Last restores the previous state.
How it differs from similar tools
No workaround chart plumbing is needed: the template binds to your cells in one step and the visual keeps up with the data.
Good to know
Bindings must match the chart's expected shape; auto-refreshes on source change. Requires the listed data fields (category, segment, value).
Limitations
Requires the listed data fields.
Frequently asked questions
- Is the output locked, or can I change it?
- It stays fully editable: every part is a normal Excel element you can move, color and resize.
- What happens when I update the cells?
- The visual watches the cells it is bound to; change the values and the view redraws itself.
- Will my table change?
- No. Your data stays exactly as it is; only the visual is added to the sheet.
- Can I try another look on the same data?
- Yes. Just reopen the gallery and pick a different template; the earlier visual remains on the sheet.
